New LARA guidance on motorsport events on public highways

Feb 9, 2026 | News

LARA has published new summary guidance to help public authorities and anyone else with an interest in motorsport events to navigate the complexities of the legislative framework governing organised motorsport events that involve public highways and public rights of way. Bodies or individuals seeking to organise a motorsport event may find it useful to gain a better understanding of the governing principles behind the process of organising motorsport events, but should also seek advice directly from Motorsport UK.

This guidance compliments a LARA concise guide to the legislation governing motorsport events on closed roads, which was published early in 2025.
